Introduction
Registration with the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP) is a statutory requirement for individuals who wish to practise property valuation in South Africa. SACPVP regulates the profession in the public interest, ensuring that all registered valuers meet the required education, experience, ethical, and professional standards.

Candidate Valuer
What is a Candidate Valuer?
A Candidate Valuer is a person who is in the process of qualifying as a property valuer. This category allows provisional practice under supervision.
Registration Steps
Check Eligibility
- Be enrolled in or have completed a recognised valuation qualification.
- Provide proof of academic progression or qualification.
Prepare Required Documents
- Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts.
- ID or passport copy (and valid work permit for non-SA citizens).
Supervisor/Mentor Confirmation
- If applicable, include a signed supervisor letter confirming willingness to mentor during training.
Submit Application
- Submit the candidate registration form along with documentation via the online portal.
Receive Certificate
- Initial candidate registration certificates are typically valid for five years.

- Certified copy of proof of enrolment for Real Estate Qualification
- Certified copy of qualification/ transcript
- Supervisory letter

Important Notes
- Candidate valuers must submit an academic progress report annually.
- If a candidate remains registered beyond five years and has completed relevant studies, a one-year electronic certificate will be issued.
Professional Valuer & Professional Associated Valuer
What is a Professional / Professional Associated Valuer?
These are fully qualified valuers who have met experience and examination requirements under SACPVP rules.
Professional Valuer
Registration requirements
- Completed application form with the stamp of the Commissioner of Oaths on item 9 & 10
- Certified copy of qualification (strictly 4 years degree of accredited Real Estate) together with transcript
- Supervisory letter confirming that all valuations submitted were performed under his/her mentorship
- Registration and annual fee should be paid once passed the Pr Val board exam
- Certified copy of the ID
- Practical Workschool Certificate
- Submission of Valuation report with completed item 11.1 experience matric
- Curriculum Vitae must be submitted
Candidate Valuers with 4 years accredited qualification registered with the Council for 2 years or more could qualify to write the Pr Val Exam if their score is sufficient.
Professional Associated Valuer
Registration requirements
- Completed application form with the stamp of the Commissioner of Oaths on item 9 & 10
- Certified copy of accredited Real Estate qualification / transcript
- Supervisory letter confirming that all valuations submitted were performed under his/her mentorship
- Registration and annual fee should be paid once passed the Pr AVal board exam
- Certified copy of the ID
- Certified copy of matric certificate
- Practical Workschool Certificate
- Submission of Valuation report that corresponds item 11.1 experience matrix
- Curriculum vitae (CV) must be submitted

Registration Steps
Ensure Candidate Status
- Must already be a registered Candidate Valuer and meet practical experience requirements.
Complete Required Experience
- Accumulate supervised valuation experience with documented proofs.
Sit Admission Examination
- After meeting experience requirements, apply to write the appropriate admission exam.
- Prepare and submit the Experience Matrix detailing all valuation tasks performed.
Application Submission
- Submit full application, including Experience Matrix and supporting documentation.
CPD Compliance
- A Professional Valuer or Professional Associated Valuer must be CPD compliant.
- CPD compliance awards a five-year certificate with both electronic and paper certificates bearing the gold crest.

To qualify as a Professional, the following is required:
- Study one of the above accredited qualifications
- Attendance at the Practical Work School (compulsory)
- Submission of Experiential Matrix and POE for assessment by the Registration Committee
- Write the admission examination for either Professional Valuers or Professional Associated Valuers registration

Application Form
Applicants for all registration categories must complete the official SACPVP Registration Form and upload or submit it with supporting documents. The application requires specific details such as personal particulars, educational qualifications, experience summary and supporting certificates.

Certificate & Continued Professional Development (CPD)
- Candidate Valuers typically receive a five-year registration certificate.
- Professional and Professional Associated Valuers who are CPD compliant receive a five-year certificate with dual electronic and paper formats.
- All professionals must accrue 50 CPD hours every five years to maintain compliance.
Renewal & Conditions
- Registration certificates must be renewed annually where required.
- Candidate Valuers must provide yearly progress reports and updated documentation as needed.
- Professionals must show ongoing CPD compliance and meet any conditions specified under SACPVP rules.
Various Gazetted Fees: 2026/2027 Financial Year
The South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP) has officially published the gazetted fees and charges for the 2026/2027 financial year in terms of the Property Valuers Profession Act, 2000 (Act No. 47 of 2000), Section 12(1).
These fees are effective from 1 April 2026 until 31 March 2027.

Important Notices
Gazette Notice Item No. 6
Please note that item No. 6 on the Gazette Notice is no longer applicable. The clause was originally retained in the event that the e-Certificate project was not completed timeously.
e-Certificates
SACPVP has successfully refined its registration processes and now issues e-Certificates subject to certain conditions.
e-Registration Card
The e-Registration Card system is currently in the final stages of development and will be introduced through an Android mobile application with QR code functionality.
Hardcopy Registration Certificates
Should registered persons request a hardcopy Registration Certificate, a fee of R350 will apply in accordance with the published Gazette notice.
